An Abridged Summary of Spaceflight History and Lessons Learned

A former NASA human spaceflight engineer talks about the lessons learned from past space projects via video.

  • Valuable content learned from "past experiences and failures" accumulated from various aerospace missions around the world (NASA, JAXA, Commercial and many others).
  • Explanation by an expert space engineer (EVA) who has trained and supported many NASA space shuttle astronauts.

This education program is ideal for those currently involved in space businesses, those considering entering the space business for the first time, innovation start-up companies, and students interested in space careers.

Spaceflight businesses present unique and significant challenges for success (e.g. zero-gravity, temperature extremes, solar radiation, etc.).
These challenges differ greatly from those faced by earth-based technical industries (e.g. IT, Robotics, AI development, etc.).
Private-sector spaceflight businesses are rapidly expanding all over the world (launch vehicles, surface rovers, space tourism, etc.) and lessons learned from past experiences are vital to mission success.
From the beginning of the spaceflight era, NASA has continuously published Lessons Learned reports to inform and educate engineers and managers about past spaceflight experiences and failures. These lessons are then incorporated into the design and development of future missions.
This space education program consists of teaching material compiled and created by a former NASA human spaceflight engineering expert with many years of aerospace experience.
